John W. Henry and partner Dave Kaemmer founded iRacing.com in 2004, which developed into the world's premier motorsport racing simulation portal.
In October 2013, John W. Henry purchased The Boston Globe, becoming the third owner and later the ninth publisher of the largest newspaper in New England.
As part of the 2013 acquisition, Henry also purchased the Worcester Telegram & Gazette newspaper, along with other related New England media properties.

John William Henry II was born in Quincy, Illinois, on September 13, 1949. He spent his early childhood on a family farm in Forrest City, Arkansas, before moving to Apple Valley, California, at age 15 due to his asthmatic condition. He attended multiple colleges, including Victor Valley College and the University of California system, but did not complete a degree, attributing this to his involvement with two bands. His career began in commodities trading, where he developed a mechanical trend-following method for futures trading accounts. In 1981, he founded John W. Henry & Company, Inc., a global investment management firm, and served as its chairman for over 30 years.
Henry’s extensive involvement in sports ownership began in 1989 as chairman and majority owner of the Tucson Toros of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League. He also co-owned the West Palm Beach Tropics in the Senior Professional Baseball Association. In 1991, he purchased a small interest in the New York Yankees, and from 1999 to 2001, he was the chairman and sole owner of the Florida Marlins. In 2002, he became the Principal Owner of the Boston Red Sox, leading the team to four World Series Championships, five American League East titles, and 11 postseason appearances. He also oversaw over $400 million in improvements to Fenway Park and established the Red Sox Foundation, which has become the largest team charity in Major League Baseball.
Beyond baseball, Henry is a founder and principal owner of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), which includes the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, and the Pittsburgh Penguins. He also co-founded iRacing.com in 2004, a leading motorsport racing simulation platform. In 2013, Henry purchased The Boston Globe and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette, serving as publisher of The Boston Globe in 2014. Throughout his career, Henry has received numerous honors, including honorary doctorate degrees and induction into the Futures Hall of Fame, recognizing his contributions to both finance and sports.
