John Partridge

Born on July 24, 1971, in Manchester, England, UK, John Partridge began his training in ballet at the Royal Ballet Lower School. His early career saw him appear in the television adaptation of Stan Barstow’s novel ‘A Kind of Loving’ in 1982. He furthered his training in musical theatre at the Bush Davies School of Theatre Arts and Doreen Bird College of Performing Arts. Partridge left college at 16 to join the original UK tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical ‘Cats’. He served as dance captain for the ‘Cats’ tour from 1989 to 1990, where he played roles such as Alonzo and Rumpus Cat, and understudied Mr. Mistoffelees and Rum Tum Tugger.

Partridge later became a part of the West End production of ‘Cats’ at the New London Theatre, taking on the roles of Rum Tum Tugger and Munkustrap. His portrayal of Rum Tum Tugger was also featured in the official film production of ‘Cats’ in 1998, produced by Andrew Lloyd Webber. He reprised the role of Rum Tum Tugger in the German production in Düsseldorf and returned to the West End cast before its closure in 2002. In 2008, Partridge joined the cast of the BBC One soap opera ‘EastEnders’ as Christian Clarke, known as the gay brother of Jane Beale, a role he held until 2012, with brief returns in 2014, 2015, and 2016. During his time on ‘EastEnders’, he also worked as a choreographer for the show.

His career also includes working with notable musical artists such as U2, Pet Shop Boys, Kim Wilde, Neneh Cherry, Pete Townshend, Mica Paris, and Ultra Nate. In 2010, John Partridge was a judge on Andrew Lloyd Webber’s TV show ‘Over The Rainbow’, which sought to find a young girl to play Dorothy in a new production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’. He won Celebrity MasterChef in 2018, beating other contestants. In 2024/2025, he is scheduled to embark on a solo UK tour titled ‘Dancing Man’.
