An extremely accomplished and respected actor, comedian and singer, Jon Lovitz is best known as a cast member of NBC’s long-running sketch comedy show Saturday Night Live from 1985 to 1990. Some of his most notable SNL characters include Tommy Flanagan, the Pathological Liar, and the Master Thespian. He also starred as New York movie critic Jay Sherman in the prime time animated sitcom The Critic, whose creators had previously worked on The Simpsons.
Lovitz’ numerous movie credits include roles in black comedy-drama Happiness (1998) which won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 1998 Cannes Film Festival, A League of Their Own (1992) starring Tom Hanks, Madonna and Rosie O’Donnell, and Rat Race (2001) alongside an ensemble cast including Rowan Atkinson and Whoopi Goldberg. He also starred in the musical The Producers (2005) with Matthew Broderick and Will Ferrell, written by Mel Brooks. Lovitz’ has even broken into Broadway during his career, playing the lead role in a production of Neil Simon’s The Dinner Party (2001).
His other television appearances include numerous voice roles in The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Friends, Las Vegas, Two and a Half Men, New Girl, The New Celebrity Apprentice and Historical Roasts. He also recently featured in Holey Moley, ABC’s latest sports reality competition featuring such sporting greats as Stephen Curry and Erick Peyton. A man who has carved out success within every discipline he’s tried his hand at, Lovitz is a true master of his craft, flitting seamlessly between world-class acting and comedy.
