Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Joseph Leonard Gordon-Levitt was born on February 17, 1981, in Los Angeles, California. He began his acting career early, participating in a musical theater group at age four and subsequently appearing in television commercials for brands such as Sunny Jim peanut butter, Cocoa Puffs, Pop-Tarts, and Kinney Shoes. His early screen credits include made-for-television films and roles in the 1991 TV series ‘Dark Shadows’ and the film ‘A River Runs Through It’ (1992). In 1994, he starred in the Disney film ‘Angels in the Outfield’ as Roger Bomman.

Gordon-Levitt gained significant recognition for his role as Tommy Solomon in the sitcom ‘3rd Rock from the Sun,’ which aired from 1996 to 2001. During this period, he also featured in films like ‘Halloween H20: 20 Years Later’ (1998) and ’10 Things I Hate About You’ (1999). After six seasons on ‘3rd Rock from the Sun,’ he attended Columbia University in 2000, studying history, literature, and French poetry, before returning to acting in 2004 with a focus on independent films.

His adult career saw him star in notable films such as ‘Mysterious Skin’ (2004), ‘Brick’ (2005), and ‘500 Days of Summer’ (2009), the latter earning him a Golden Globe Award nomination. He solidified his presence in mainstream cinema with roles in Christopher Nolan’s ‘Inception’ (2010) and ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ (2012), as well as ‘Looper’ (2012) and Steven Spielberg’s ‘Lincoln’ (2012). In 2013, he made his screenwriting and directorial debut with ‘Don Jon,’ which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. Beyond acting and directing, he founded hitRECord, an online community for creative collaboration, which has won two Primetime Emmy Awards.
