Josh Liu is a Los Angeles-based hairstylist, initially trained at the Toni + Guy Hairdressing Academy. He further developed his skills by training under various celebrity hairstylists, including Chris Appleton, Christian Wood, Anthony Turner, Rob Talty, John Ruggiero, Anna Cofone, and Dennis Gots. Liu views hair as an artistic medium, drawing inspiration from fashion, nature, and architecture to express his creativity with clients.
Prior to his career in hairstyling, Liu graduated from Pepperdine University with a B.A. in Public Relations. He worked for a year and a half as an Assistant Publicist at ID Public Relations. Following this, he made a career transition to pursue his passion for hairstyling, having also previously taken courses at The Art Center College of Design. This foundational experience in fine arts and public relations has informed his unique approach to the beauty industry.
Liu has built a clientele that includes high-profile individuals and has contributed to projects in editorial, commercial, television, and music sectors. A notable aspect of his career includes serving as the hairstylist for Ariana Grande during her 2017 international Dangerous Woman Tour. His work has gained recognition, especially for his technique in creating a ‘snatched ponytail.’ Beyond his styling work, Liu launched Útiles Beauty, an accessories brand focused on essential hair tools, starting with “The Hairtie,” designed for various hair types and textures.
