William Joshua Reddick, born on February 19, 1987, in Savannah, Georgia, developed his baseball skills from a young age. After playing one season at Middle Georgia College, where he was named the 2006 Region XVII Junior College Player of the Year with a .462 batting average, he was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 17th round of the 2006 MLB draft. Reddick made his Major League Baseball debut with the Red Sox on July 31, 2009. His early career saw him transition between the minor and major leagues, showcasing potential in both batting and fielding.
Reddick’s career saw significant progression following his trade to the Oakland Athletics in 2011. In 2012, he had a breakout season, hitting 32 home runs and 85 RBIs, and was awarded the American League Gold Glove Award for right field, cementing his reputation as a top defensive player. He continued to be a consistent contributor for the Athletics, demonstrating his ability to hit for power and defend at a high level. In August 2016, he was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, further expanding his experience in competitive baseball environments.
In 2017, Reddick signed with the Houston Astros, where he experienced a career high in batting average at .314 and played a crucial role in the team’s World Series victory that year. His tenure with the Astros was marked by strong offensive performance and continued defensive excellence, including tying for the MLB lead in sacrifice flies. Beyond his on-field achievements, Reddick has been actively involved in community initiatives, notably donating $1 million to the construction of “Josh Reddick Stadium” in Springfield, GA, which features an accessible design for children with special needs. He also served on the Taylor Hooton Foundation advisory board, advocating against performance-enhancing drug use among youth. After stints with the Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Mets, Reddick retired from professional baseball in 2023, concluding a career that spanned multiple MLB teams and included a World Series title and a Gold Glove Award.
