Julie Bowen

Julie Bowen Luetkemeyer was born on March 3, 1970, in Baltimore, Maryland. She attended Calvert School and Garrison Forest School in Maryland before moving to St. George’s School in Rhode Island. Bowen pursued higher education at Brown University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Renaissance Studies. During her time in college, she engaged in various stage productions, including “Guys and Dolls” and “Stage Door.” After completing her studies, Bowen moved to New York to further her acting skills at the esteemed Actors Studio, establishing a foundation for a successful career in entertainment.

Bowen’s career began with television roles and a notable appearance in the 1996 film “Happy Gilmore” as the love interest. She continued to build her filmography with supporting roles in movies such as “Multiplicity” (1996) and “An American Werewolf in Paris” (1997). Her television presence grew with significant roles in series like “ER” (1998–1999), where she played Roxanne Please, “Ed” (2000–2004) as Carol Vessey, and “Boston Legal” (2005–2008) as Denise Bauer. She also had a recurring role in “Lost” (2005–2007) as Sarah Shephard. These early achievements established her as a versatile actress in the industry.

From 2009 to 2020, Bowen starred as Claire Dunphy in the hit ABC series “Modern Family.” This role brought her widespread critical acclaim, culminating in two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2011 and 2012, along with six consecutive nominations. Beyond acting, Bowen has expanded her career into production and directing. Her production company, Bowen & Sons, secured a first-look deal with Universal Television in 2021.
