Born Kang Eui-geon on December 10, 1996, in Busan, South Korea, Kang Daniel’s journey began with a passion for dance. He legally changed his name to Daniel, drawing inspiration from a biblical figure. His early years were marked by dedication to dance, joining a b-boy club in eighth grade and attending Nataraja Academy in Busan. He further pursued his artistic interests at Peniel Arts High School, studying modern dance with a focus on ballet and earning a gold medal in a high school performing arts contest. Despite facing personal challenges, including ostracism in elementary school, he built self-esteem through dance, eventually earning a GED credential after dropping out of high school. In mid-2018, he enrolled in Kyung Hee Cyber University’s Department of Applied Music.
Kang gained national recognition in 2017 as the first-place winner of Mnet’s reality competition series ‘Produce 101 Season 2,’ becoming the center of the project boy group Wanna One. Following Wanna One’s activities, he launched his solo career in 2019, establishing his own agency, Konnect Entertainment, to manage his endeavors.
