Kara Lindsay was born on February 16, 1985, in Rochester, New York. She pursued her education at Carnegie Mellon University, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in acting and musical theatre. Her early career included performing as Laura in a musical adaptation of “Little House on the Prairie” at the Paper Mill Playhouse in 2009. This experience provided a foundation before she originated a significant role in a new Broadway production.
Lindsay gained widespread recognition for originating the role of Katherine Plumber in Disney’s “Newsies” in 2011 at the Paper Mill Playhouse, continuing with the production when it transferred to Broadway in 2012. She performed this role until February 2014, earning a nomination for a 2012 Astaire Award for Outstanding Female Dancer in a Broadway Show. Following her time in “Newsies,” Lindsay took on the role of Glinda in the second national tour of “Wicked” from April to November 2014. She then transferred to the Broadway production of “Wicked” as Glinda from December 2014 to January 2016, and again from November 2016 to July 2017. She returned to the second national tour of “Wicked” in 2018, concluding her run in February 2019 in Salt Lake City. Her Broadway credits also include Cynthia Weil in “Beautiful: The Carole King Musical” in 2017, 2018, and 2019, and Princess Winnifred (standby) in “Once Upon a Mattress” in 2024. In 2025, she is scheduled to star as Michele Weinberger in “Romy & Michele: The Musical” at Stage 42. Her television appearances include an episode of “Murphy Brown” in 2018 and “Submissions Only” in 2012. Lindsay is married to Kevin Massey, and they have one child.
