Karren Rita Brady, Baroness Brady, CBE, born on April 4, 1969, in Edmonton, London, is a prominent British business executive and television personality. Her career began at Saatchi & Saatchi before moving to London Broadcasting Company (LBC). She gained national recognition early in her career, notably when she persuaded David Sullivan to acquire Birmingham City F.C. in 1993 at the age of 23, making her the managing director. This role established her as a pioneering figure in the male-dominated world of professional football.
During her tenure at Birmingham City F.C., Brady oversaw the club’s flotation on the Stock Market in 1997, becoming the youngest managing director of a UK public limited company. She managed the club until its sale in 2009 for £81.5 million. In January 2010, Brady was appointed vice-chairman of West Ham United F.C. following the club’s purchase by David Sullivan and David Gold. Her leadership has been pivotal in the club’s financial growth and brand development, including negotiating the move to the London Stadium (formerly the Olympic Stadium) in 2016, which significantly increased the club’s capacity and global brand presence. Brady has also been a consistent presence on television as an aide to Alan Sugar on “The Apprentice” since 2010, offering business acumen and advice to aspiring entrepreneurs.
Beyond her football and television roles, Brady is a dedicated advocate for women in business and entrepreneurship. She was awarded a CBE in the 2014 New Year Honours for her contributions and became a life peer in the House of Lords, taking the title Baroness Brady of Knightsbridge, in September 2014.
