Karthi Gnanasegaram

Karthi Gnanasegaram received her education at King Edward VI High School for Girls in Birmingham and later pursued a Classics degree at Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge. During her time at Cambridge, she contributed to the student paper, Varsity, and excelled in sports, earning blues in tennis and badminton. She also developed her musical talents, achieving Grade 8 in both violin and piano, and participated in European tours as a violinist. Her early career started in sports reporting and presenting, working with various media outlets.

Gnanasegaram has established a significant presence in broadcasting with the BBC, covering major sporting events such as the 2012, 2016, and 2020 Summer Olympics, and the 2014 Commonwealth Games. She is a regular figure in Wimbledon tennis coverage, including on-court interviews for BBC Radio 5 Live. Her reporting extends across prominent BBC Sport programs like ‘Match of the Day,’ ‘Football Focus,’ and ‘Final Score,’ and she contributes to ‘Today’ on BBC Radio 4. Beyond sports, Karthi has showcased her versatility by presenting for Classic FM since 2017, where she developed and hosted the ‘Perfect Pitch’ series. In this series, she combined her passion for sports and classical music by interviewing notable sports figures about their musical preferences. Her career progression demonstrates a successful integration of her interests in both sports and classical music.

Further expanding her reach, Karthi Gnanasegaram is a presenter for IMG’s Premier League coverage and has been a reporter for the Sky Sports Tennis Channel since its launch at the 2023 US Open. She has also contributed to the TNT Sports coverage of the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. Additionally, Gnanasegaram has hosted sessions for the United Nations at Goals House, highlighting her involvement in broader global initiatives. Her appearance as herself in the film ‘Fisherman’s Friends: One and All’ (2022) also marks an acting credit, further showcasing her diverse profile.
