Many will remember Ashley as the member of boy band group The Risk who famously quit ITV’s X Factor during the live final show, in order to pursue a career in media. Today his decision has proved the right one; he is an RTS nominated BBC broadcast journalist.
Currently, Ashley is a reporter for BBC2’s Victoria Derbyshire programme and has had an extremely busy 12 months covering the Grenfell disaster and making original BBC films on issues including interfaith foster care, kids who are bullied for having facial disfigurements and racism on UK university campuses.
Ashley has also fronted the BBC3 documentary Care Home Kids: Looking For Love (produced by Special Edition Films). Other recent BBC films presented by Ashley include My Life In Care and My Life Without Skin. He is currently working on a new documentary about siblings separated in care.
Ashley is an ambassador for The Fostering Network charity and a truly inspirational public speaker. In recognition of his talent, Ashley John-Baptiste was shortlisted for the RTS Young Talent Of The Year award in 2018. He has enormous enthusiasm and passion to use his story as a tool to motivate and propel others to face their challenges with a sense of optimism and triumph.
Ashley, who is campaigning to change fostering laws in the UK, has an inspiring story to tell about his childhood, how to follow your dreams, achieve your goals and to never give up.
