Katie Taylor

Katie Taylor, born on July 2, 1986, in Bray, County Wicklow, Ireland, began her boxing career at the age of 12. Coached by her father, Pete Taylor, she quickly distinguished herself in the ring. In 2001, at 15, she participated in the first officially sanctioned female boxing match in Ireland, defeating Alanna Audley. Her amateur career was marked by extraordinary success, including five consecutive gold medals at the Women’s World Championships and an Olympic gold medal at the 2012 London Olympics in the lightweight division, where she also served as Ireland’s flag bearer. Taylor’s fast-paced and aggressive boxing style made her a prominent figure in women’s boxing, significantly contributing to its global recognition.

Taylor transitioned to professional boxing in 2016 under Matchroom Boxing, making her debut with a third-round technical knockout over Karina Kopińska. Continuing her career progression, Taylor made history again in November 2019 by moving up in weight to face Christina Linardatou, winning the WBO female junior-welterweight title and becoming a two-weight world champion. In November 2023, she regained the unified and lineal super lightweight championship by defeating Chantelle Cameron in Dublin, making her a two-weight undisputed champion—a feat achieved by only a few in boxing history. Her professional career continues to be defined by sustained excellence, historic title defenses, and high-profile fights, solidifying her legacy as a trailblazer in boxing.
