Estonian fencer Katrina Lehis is a European Championships title-holder, and a European Games and World Cup medallist in the épée. Left-handed Lehis represents both her national Estonian team and the Haapsalu-based club En Garde, and has won medals in both team and individual competition. She was formerly a world No. 1 at junior level, and was named Estonian Young Athlete of the Year.
Lehis began training in fencing in 2004, and was representing her country at Junior and Cadet level within five years. In 2012, she won bronze in the individual épée at the World Junior Fencing Championships, going on to repeat her performance the following year, before claiming gold to become World Junior Champion in 2014. Lehis later moved into senior competition, and enjoyed a decorated 2015 as part of the Ukrainian women’s épée team. The quartet won silver medals at the European Games in Baku and the European Fencing Championships in Montreux, and finished in the Top 10 at that year’s World Championships in Moscow.
In recent years, Lehis has concentrated more on individual competition, and notably claimed the women’s épée gold medal at the European Fencing Championships in 2018. On the World Cup circuit, Lehis scored a gold in Barcelona in 2020, and has claimed victory at FIE Satellite events in Turku, Oslo and Split, as well as podium finishes in numerous other Satellite and Grand Prix events.
