Katrina Pierson was born Katrina Lanette Shaddix on July 20, 1976, in Wichita, Kansas. She grew up in challenging circumstances, raised by a single mother who gave birth to her at 15. Her early life involved navigating poverty and struggles. Determined to improve her circumstances, Pierson balanced work and education, ultimately earning an Associate of Science degree from Kilgore College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2006. Prior to her political career, she built a successful career in the healthcare industry, including roles at Baylor Health Care System as a practice administrator from 2009 to 2011.
Pierson emerged as a prominent conservative voice in 2009, gaining national attention after her speech at the Dallas Tea Party rally went viral. She co-founded a local Tea Party group in Garland, Texas, and was recognized as one of the “Founding Mothers” of the Tea Party Movement. Her ability to articulate conservative principles led to frequent appearances on national and international news networks such as Fox News Channel, CNN, MSNBC, and Newsmax. In 2014, she ran an unsuccessful primary challenge against incumbent congressman Pete Sessions for Texas’s 32nd congressional district, securing 36% of the vote.
Her career progressed when she was appointed National Spokesperson for Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign. Following the 2016 election, she declined a Deputy Press Secretary position and worked with America First Policies. She returned to the Trump campaign as a Senior Advisor in 2020. Throughout her career, Pierson has demonstrated a commitment to public service, serving on the Texas Lieutenant Governor’s Advisory Board and various local government boards focused on healthcare and transportation. In 2021, she became a visiting fellow at the Heritage Foundation and joined the board of a pro-life non-profit organization. Currently, she is set to assume office as a Member of the Texas House of Representatives for the 33rd district on January 14, 2025, after winning the Republican primary runoff in May 2024.
