Kay Burley

Kay Burley is a distinguished English broadcaster renowned for her extensive career in television news and her pioneering role at Sky News. After launching the Sky One Entertainment Channel in November 1988 with her documentary, ‘The Satellite Revolution,’ Kay Burley transitioned to become a foundational member of the pioneering Sky News team in 1988. Her distinguished career in broadcasting began at 17, with reporting roles for the Wigan Evening Post and Chronicle, BBC local radio, and Tyne Tees Television. In 1985, she joined TV-am as a reporter and occasional newsreader, going on to present the first hour of their programming by 1987.

She also fronted coverage of the birth of Prince George in 2013. Demonstrating her versatility across media, Burley contributed to the Sunday Mirror and appeared on Channel 5’s news bulletins. She also presented a Sunday show on London talk radio station LBC 97.3, joining in 2014. In 2011 and 2012, she expanded her literary portfolio with the publication of two novels, ‘First Ladies’ and ‘Betrayal’.

Further showcasing her public profile, Burley participated in the second series of ITV’s ‘Dancing on Ice’ in 2007, donating her appearance fee to MacMillan Cancer Care, and later appeared on ‘Celebrity Hunted’ in 2018. In September 2018, Burley launched ‘The Kay Burley Show’ on Sky News, subsequently moving to host the channel’s breakfast slot, ‘Kay Burley @Breakfast,’ in September 2019. After 36 years as a leading voice in UK news, it was announced on February 5, 2025, that Burley would be concluding her distinguished career with Sky News.
