Ronald José Acuña Blanco Jr. was born on December 18, 1997, in La Guaira, Venezuela. His baseball career began when he signed with the Atlanta Braves as an international free agent in July 2014 for $100,000. He made his professional debut in 2015 with the Gulf Coast Braves and later that season was promoted to the Danville Braves. Acuña progressed through the minor league system, playing for the Rome Braves, Florida Fire Frogs, Mississippi Braves, and Gwinnett Braves, showcasing his all-around talent in batting, baserunning, and fielding. By 2017, he was named the Minor League Player of the Year by both Baseball America and USA Today, and also earned the Arizona Fall League MVP, becoming the youngest player to do so.

Acuña made his Major League Baseball debut with the Atlanta Braves on April 25, 2018, as the youngest player in MLB at the time. He quickly established himself, winning the National League Rookie of the Year Award that same year. His career progression has been marked by significant milestones, including becoming a five-time MLB All-Star in 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025. He earned three Silver Slugger Awards in 2019, 2020, and 2023, and twice led the National League in stolen bases in 2019 and 2023. These achievements highlight his consistent high performance and impact on the game.

The 2023 season was particularly notable for Acuña, as he became the fifth MLB player to join the prestigious 40–40 club (40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season) and the first to achieve a 40–70 season. He also set a modern-era franchise record for stolen bases with 73. His exceptional performance culminated in unanimously winning the 2023 National League Most Valuable Player Award and the NL Hank Aaron Award. Acuña has faced and overcome challenges, including significant ACL tears in 2021 and 2024, demonstrating resilience in returning to play at a high level.
