He is the founding guitarist of the American heavy metal band Damien Thorne, which was formed in Chicago, Illinois in 1983. Mandat was instrumental in the band’s early development, including the recording of their 1984 demo album, *Sign of the Jackal*, and the subsequent LP release of the same name in 1986 through RoadRunner Records and Jackal Productions. His commitment to Damien Thorne has been consistent, making him the only original member to appear on their 2015 release, *Soul Stealer*. Throughout his career with Damien Thorne, he has also been involved in the releases of *Wrath of Darkness* (2001, reissued 2004), *Haunted Mind* (2005), and *End of the Game* (2011).
