World championship gold medalist and Olympian Kieran Smith is an American swimmer who specialises in freestyle and individual medley competitions. In the 500-yard freestyle, he holds the US Open and American records. In the 4×200 metre freestyle relay at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, he took home a gold medal. Smith also participated in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay team that won the gold medal and set an American record at the 2021 World Short Course Championships.
Smith took part in the 2020 Summer Olympics and finished fourth in the 4×200 metre freestyle relay, sixth in the 200 metre freestyle, and third in the 400 metre freestyle, earning him the bronze medal. In the 200-meter individual medley at the 2017 FINA World Junior Swimming Championships, he took home the silver medal. He plays for the Florida Gators in college sports.
In the 400 metre freestyle preliminary round at the 2022 World Aquatics Championships, Smith placed fifth and earned a spot in the final. Later that day, with a time of 3:46.43, he finished eighth in the competition’s final. The next day, he finished eleventh in the preliminary round of the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 1:46.73, advancing to the semifinals. He swam a 1:46.06 in the evening semifinals to qualify for the final in eighth place, shaving over half a second off his time from the preliminary round. With a time of 1:45.16, he finished sixth in the competition. Three days later, he swam the quickest split among his relay teammates in the final of the 4200 metre freestyle relay, clocking in at 1:44.35 for the anchor leg to enable the team finish in 7:00.24 and win the gold.
