Kirk Cameron

Kirk Thomas Cameron was born in Panorama City, California, on October 12, 1970. His acting career began at the age of nine, with his first role in a breakfast cereal commercial. At 13, he secured his first starring role in the television series “Two Marriages.” His breakthrough came in 1985 with the ABC sitcom “Growing Pains,” where he portrayed Mike Seaver. This role led to widespread recognition, making him a prominent teen idol in the late 1980s. During his time on “Growing Pains,” Cameron also ventured into feature films, including the 1987 body-switch comedy “Like Father Like Son,” alongside Dudley Moore, which achieved box office success. He also starred in the drama “Listen to Me” in 1989. His weekly earnings during the peak of “Growing Pains” reached $50,000, and he regularly appeared on the covers of various teen magazines.

Following “Growing Pains,” which concluded in 1992, Cameron starred in “Kirk,” a WB sitcom that ran from 1995 to 1997. After converting to evangelical Christianity during his tenure on “Growing Pains,” Cameron shifted his career focus towards faith-based projects. This included roles in the “Left Behind” film series, where he played Buck Williams, and “Fireproof” (2008), an independent film that grossed over $33 million on a $500,000 budget, marking it as the highest-grossing independent film of 2008. He also co-founded The Firefly Foundation with his wife, Chelsea Noble, which created Camp Firefly, a summer camp for terminally ill children and their families. His work continued with documentary films such as “Monumental: In Search of America’s National Treasure” (2012) and “Unstoppable” (2013), where he served as host and writer. In 2021, he began hosting “Takeaways with Kirk Cameron” on TBN, a show where he interviews guests on issues relevant to Christians.

Cameron extended his influence into literature, publishing his autobiography “Still Growing” in 2008 and more recently, faith-based children’s books like “As You Grow” (2022) and “Pride Comes Before the Fall” (2023). He has continued to produce and act in Christian-themed films, including “Lifemark” (2022), which was commercially successful.
