Fashion designer and contestant on reality show Project Runway, Korto Momolu is known for her designs inspired by her home country of Liberia.
After a coup in Liberia led her to relocate to Ottawa, Momolu studied at the L’Academies des Couturiers Design Institute where she honed her craft. She then set up as an independent fashion designer, launching custom lines of womenswear and accessories and going on to audition for the fifth season of Project Runway. The Bravo show follows fashion designers as they are set a series of challenges by professional judges who then eliminate one competitor each week. Momolu impressed with her bold use of colour and mixture of influences, eventually coming runner up in the show and being voted fan favourite by viewers at home. Since filming finished, she has gone on to work on several high profile projects and partnerships including creating a line of accessories for Dillard’s department stores, designing a jewellery collection for the Smithsonian Museum gift shop and redesigning the uniforms at the Walton Family Museum. She has had her work shown in numerous publications and magazines, as well as at New York Fashion Week and as part of Project Runway AllStars.
Momolu is now an internationally renowned designer and leader in the fashion industry, creating innovative and creative collections and showing her work around the world. She expertly combines her past with fashion’s future, and is one of the brightest talents on the scene today.
