Krista McCarville, born Krista Lee Scharf on November 10, 1982, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, began her curling career at the Fort William Curling Club at the age of ten. Her early career saw her represent Northern Ontario in four Canadian Junior Curling Championships, notably skipping three times from 2000 to 2002. A significant early achievement was earning a silver medal at the 2003 Winter Universiade in Tarvisio, Italy, representing Canada with her Lakehead University team. McCarville later transitioned to women’s competitive curling, participating in her first provincial championship in 2004.

Throughout her career, McCarville has made 12 appearances at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, Canada’s national women’s curling championship. She initially represented Ontario four times between 2006 and 2010, securing a bronze medal in 2010. After Northern Ontario began competing separately, she skipped the Northern Ontario team eight times, achieving silver medals in 2016 and 2022, and a bronze in 2023. McCarville has also competed in three Canadian Olympic Curling Trials, reaching third place twice in 2009 and 2021. Her team is recognized for their success in major tournaments despite a more limited tour schedule compared to some of their peers, often prioritizing family and work commitments.

McCarville is a teacher at Holy Family School in Thunder Bay. This career choice has influenced her approach to professional curling, allowing her to balance her athletic pursuits with family life and her teaching profession. She is married to Mike McCarville and they have two children. Her unique approach to the sport has solidified her reputation as a highly competitive curler capable of performing at the national level.
