Born on December 14, 1994, in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, Kuldeep Yadav harbored early ambitions of becoming a left-arm fast bowler, inspired by figures like Wasim Akram and Zaheer Khan. However, under the guidance of his coach, he transitioned to left-arm wrist spin, finding his niche in this rare bowling style. Yadav’s early career saw him representing the Indian Under-19 cricket team, notably featuring in the 2014 U19 Cricket World Cup where he became the first Indian bowler to achieve a hat-trick in the tournament’s history. His impressive performances continued in domestic cricket, particularly in the 2016 Duleep Trophy, where he secured 17 wickets in three matches, marking him as a significant talent.
Yadav made his Test debut for India on March 25, 2017, against Australia, taking four wickets in his first innings. This marked him as the first left-arm wrist spinner to represent the Indian national team in Test cricket. His One Day International (ODI) debut followed in June 2017 against the West Indies, and he later made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut in July 2017. A significant career highlight occurred on September 21, 2017, when he became the third Indian bowler to take an ODI hat-trick, achieving this feat against Australia at Eden Gardens.
Throughout his career, Yadav has achieved multiple milestones, including becoming the fastest Indian spinner to reach 100 ODI wickets in terms of innings in January 2020. He was an integral member of the Indian team that won the 2018 Asia Cup, where he was the highest wicket-taker for India. His contributions extended to major global tournaments, playing a key role in India’s victory at the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has played for the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2016 to 2021 and subsequently for the Delhi Capitals from 2022, demonstrating consistent performance and earning multiple player-of-the-match awards.
