Kurt Thomas Busch, born on August 4, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nevada, began his racing career at age 14 in a Dwarf car. His big break came in 1997 after a connection to Chris Trickle’s team, competing against notable drivers like Ron Hornaday Jr. and Kevin Harvick. In 1998, Busch earned Rookie of the Year in the NASCAR AutoZone Elite Division, Southwest Series, and secured the series championship in 1999. His early success led to a Craftsman Truck Series ride with Roush Racing, where he won four victories and was named Rookie of the Year in 2000.
Busch transitioned to the NASCAR Cup Series in 2000 with Roush Racing. His breakout year was 2002, where he secured his first victory at the Food City 500 in Bristol and accumulated four wins, twelve top-five, and twenty top-ten finishes, placing third in the final points standings. In 2004, Busch won three races and was crowned the inaugural NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Champion, winning the first ‘Chase for the Championship.’ He continued to achieve notable results, including being the only driver to win Cup races with four manufacturers: Ford, Dodge, Chevrolet, and Toyota.
Over his career, Busch competed with various prominent teams, including Penske Racing, Furniture Row Racing, Stewart–Haas Racing, and Chip Ganassi Racing, before concluding his full-time career with 23XI Racing in 2022. Beyond NASCAR, he raced in the Indianapolis 500, the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the National Hot Rod Association. Busch was named one of NASCAR’s 75 Greatest Drivers in 2023 and is slated for induction into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2026, solidifying his legacy as one of the sport’s most accomplished and adaptable drivers.
