Macey Estrella-Kadlec, born Macey Evans on March 24, 1990, in Georgia, grew up in challenging circumstances marked by depression, drug, and alcohol abuse within her family. She sometimes lived in tents due to her parents’ legal issues. Her father, who had aspirations of becoming a wrestler but never pursued them, passed away from a drug overdose before Evans had her WWE tryout. At age 19, Estrella-Kadlec enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving for five years as a Military Police officer and undergoing Special Reaction Team training. During her service, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Indian River State College and established a construction business. She was introduced to professional wrestling through a Staff Sergeant who promoted independent shows, leading to her first wrestling match against him at one of these events.
Estrella-Kadlec began her professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 2014, training under Tom Caiazzo at the American Premier Wrestling facility in Statesboro, Georgia. She quickly achieved success, winning the company’s World Heavyweight Championship. In April 2016, she signed with WWE, where she adopted the ring name Lacey Evans, a name coincidentally shared with her sister. She entered NXT, WWE’s developmental brand, making her wrestling debut as Macey Estrella in October 2016. Throughout 2017, she was primarily utilized as a “jobber” before participating in the inaugural Mae Young Classic, advancing to the second round. In 2018, as Lacey Evans, she established a heel persona and engaged in a notable feud with Kairi Sane.
In December 2018, Evans was announced as one of six NXT wrestlers moving to the main roster, making her official Royal Rumble debut in January 2019, entering as the first participant. Following WrestleMania 35, she was drafted to the Raw brand, initiating a high-profile feud with Becky Lynch for the Raw Women’s Championship, which included a mixed tag team match in the main event of Extreme Rules in 2019. She later moved to SmackDown and faced Bayley for the SmackDown Women’s Championship at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Evans continued to have a significant presence, developing storylines such as a controversial angle with Ric Flair in 2021, and participating in multiple Money in the Bank ladder matches. She departed WWE in August 2023, citing creative dissatisfaction and a desire to focus on family. After leaving WWE, Estrella-Kadlec opened the “Sunny Summers Cafe” in Beaufort, South Carolina, named after her daughters, with the aim of addressing community issues like mental health and addiction.
