About

Born on June 29, 1973, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Lance Barber developed an interest in acting at the age of seven after seeing a performance of “Grease.” He graduated from Pennfield High School in 1991 and continued his theatrical pursuits at Kellogg Community College, where he participated in school productions while earning his associate’s degree. Following a year at the Barn Theatre, he moved to Chicago and spent five years at The Second City improvisational comedy troupe, performing alongside talents like Jack McBrayer. His early career saw him making his television debut on “Gilmore Girls.”

Barber’s breakout role came in 2005 as Paulie G. in HBO’s “The Comeback” with Lisa Kudrow, a role he reprised when the series returned in 2014. He gained further recognition with recurring roles as Bill Ponderosa in “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” from 2010 to 2018, and Lucas in MTV’s “Faking It” from 2014 to 2016. These roles established his versatility across comedic and dramatic genres. In 2011, he appeared in “The Big Bang Theory” as Jimmy Speckerman, a school bully.

Since 2017, Barber has played a lead role as George Cooper Sr. in the CBS sitcom “Young Sheldon,” a spin-off of “The Big Bang Theory.” This role has significantly elevated his public profile, appearing in 141 episodes until 2024. He also reprised his role as George Cooper Sr. in a 2018 episode of “The Big Bang Theory” and is set to appear in the upcoming spin-off “Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage” in 2025. His career reflects consistent engagement in television and film projects.
