American actor and singer-songwriter Larry Bagby got his first major acting break playing the bully Ernie ‘Ice’ in the 1993 family comedy Hocus Pocus, a film whose cult appeal continues to grow as the ‘90s kids who grew up watching it introduce their children to it. Bagby meanwhile has gone on to feature in many other major films and TV series. He appeared in the multi-award-winning Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line as Marshall Grant, Cash’s long-serving bass player and played Larry Blaisdell in era-defining drama Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Bagby was born in California. He made his first on-screen appearance aged 14 in the 1988 comedy sci-fi film Invasion Earth: The Ants are Here. Various roles followed, including a part in The Wonder Years, before Hocus Pocus bought his talents to a wider audience. He played parts in key 1990s shows such as Buffy, Married with Children, and Saved by the Bell. In 2003, he starred in Saints and Sinners, a World War 2 drama film that won Best Picture award at no fewer than 14 different film festivals. In 2008, he joined the cast of The Young and the Restless, a long-running soap opera that has become an American institution.
Bagby is also an accomplished musician and songwriter. He released his debut album, Where I Stand, in 2005 and has toured with members of The Tennessee Three, Johnny Cash’s former backing band. His songs have appeared in films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still and The Break-Up Artist (he provided the theme song for the latter).
