About

Lauren Chen, born Lauren Yu Sum Tam in Quebec, Canada, in 1994, is a conservative political commentator. She spent a significant portion of her childhood in Hong Kong and has lived in Shanghai, Singapore, and London. Chen pursued higher education in the United States, attending the University of Southern California and Brigham Young University. She graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University in December 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, where she also studied screenwriting. Chen began her online career in 2016 under the moniker “Roaming Millennial” on YouTube. Her content primarily focused on conservative viewpoints, addressing immigration, LGBTQ+ rights, and feminism.

Her online presence grew, connecting her with both established conservative figures and more controversial personalities. In 2017, she interviewed white supremacist Richard Spencer, maintaining that she disagreed with his white nationalist views while engaging with him. This positioned her as a bridging figure between mainstream conservatism and the online far-right. In December 2017, she founded Roaming Millennial Inc., a company incorporated in Quebec, Canada, which she co-owns with her husband, Liam Donovan. By 2019, her YouTube channel garnered over 400,000 subscribers and 45 million views. She contributed to Evie Magazine, an anti-feminist publication, and later joined CRTV, which merged with TheBlaze. At TheBlaze, she hosted her own show, “Pseudo-Intellectual,” and also contributed to Turning Point USA.

In 2021, Chen began writing op-eds for RT, a Russian state-backed media channel, with articles such as “America’s ‘white supremacy’ is a myth.” A federal indictment later alleged that she, referred to as “Founder-1,” received compensation from RT to produce over 200 videos for her personal YouTube channel without disclosing the sponsorship. In January 2022, she co-founded Tenet Media with her husband. The indictment, unsealed in September 2024, alleged that Tenet Media received approximately $10 million in funding and direction from a Russian covert operation to spread pro-Russian propaganda. Following this, Chen was fired from TheBlaze, her Turning Point USA author page was removed, and YouTube terminated all her channels, including Tenet Media’s.
