Leah Kate Kalmenson was born on September 9, 1992, in Los Angeles County, California. She grew up in a Jewish family that owned a radio station. She later moved to New York to pursue her music career. In 2018, Kate began sharing song covers on her YouTube channel and released her debut extended play, “Impulse,” which featured the singles “WTF?” and “So Good.” This was followed by singles “Visions” and “Bad Idea.” Her career gained significant momentum in June 2020 with “Fuck Up the Friendship,” which became popular on TikTok and accumulated over 33 million streams on Spotify. Following this success, she released several other singles, including “Grave,” “Boyfriend,” and “Boy Next Door.”
In 2021, Kate released “Calabasas” and “Veronica” in anticipation of her second EP, “What Just Happened?” She made her first Billboard chart appearance in 2022 with the Platinum-certified single “10 Things I Hate About You,” which reached the Top 15 on U.S. Pop Radio and was a UK Top 40 hit. Following its viral success on TikTok, she toured internationally. She was a support act for Madison Beer’s Life Support Tour across Europe in March and April 2022. Leah Kate has continued to expand her discography and collaborations. In June 2024, she released the single “What Girls Do.” She was featured on Steve Aoki’s track “Talk About Love,” performing it live with him, including at Tomorrowland. She also co-wrote Kesha’s single “ATTENTION!” In August 2025, Kate announced her sophomore studio album, “Genius,” which is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025. Her work has positioned her as a billion-streaming artist, known for her contributions to pop music and her engaging live performances.
