Lilli Cooper is a New York City-born actress, who has risen to prominence in musical theatre. She is perhaps best known for playing Elphaba in the Broadway production of Wicked, while she also took the major role of Martha Bessell in Spring Awakening.
Cooper attended LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts and Vassar College, before moving into performance as a career. It was the aforementioned originating role in Spring awakening that first saw her come to prominence, and this production rapidly made the transition to Broadway.
After this highly successful breakthrough performance, Cooper went on to appear in The Threepenny Opera, where she was able to showcase her vocal talent. This opera played at the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway, and already Cooper was becoming a seasoned performer in the New York theatre district.
Cooper has always been willing to move on to different areas of work, though, and next appeared in American repertory theatre. Her performance in Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 was highly regarded, and this inevitably lead to more Broadway office.
In recent years, Cooper has appeared in a raft of performances on Broadway, particularly in musical theatre. Her credits include The SpongeBob Musical, Tick, Tick… Boom!, Sundown, Yellow Moon, and Mack and Mabel.
Cooper has demonstrated herself to be a versatile and flexible performer, and one with an incredibly bright future.
