Lindsay Wagner was born in Los Angeles, California, on June 22, 1949. Her early life involved a move to Portland, Oregon, after her parents’ divorce, where she attended David Douglas High School and actively participated in school plays. She pursued higher education at the University of Oregon and Mt. Hood Community College before relocating to Los Angeles. Initially working as a model and appearing as a hostess on “Playboy After Dark,” her acting career gained momentum when she secured a small role on “Marcus Welby, M.D.” in 1971. This led to a contract with Universal Studios, where she became a contract player in various productions. Her film debut came in 1973 with “Two People” and “The Paper Chase,” where she played Susan Fields.

Wagner achieved widespread recognition for her portrayal of Jaime Sommers in the television series “The Bionic Woman” (1976–1978). This role, initially conceived as a guest appearance on “The Six Million Dollar Man” in 1975, garnered significant public acclaim, leading to her character’s revival and dedicated spin-off series. Her performance as Jaime Sommers, a former tennis professional with bionic implants, broke new ground for women in television and earned her a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series in 1977. This achievement marked the first time an actor or actress in a science fiction series received such an award. She also co-produced the 1990 TV movie “Shattered Dreams” and was an executive producer for the 1984 TV series “Jessie” and the 2008 short film “Tranquility.”

Beyond her acting career, Wagner has actively engaged in advocacy, focusing on holistic healing, human rights, domestic violence, animal welfare, and environmental issues. She has served as the Honorary Chair of ICAN (Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect) for 25 years. From 2003 to 2006, she co-facilitated a counseling group for convicted batterers and their families in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. She has also authored several books, including the vegetarian cookbook “The High Road to Health” (1990) and “Lindsay Wagner’s New Beauty: The Acupressure Facelift” (1987). Her commitment to well-being extends to facilitating “Quiet the Mind & Open the Heart” workshops and retreats, designed to help individuals address personal challenges through spiritual and meditative practices.
