Logan Mankins

Born on March 10, 1982, in Catheys Valley, California, Logan Lee Mankins established a notable career in Football. He attended Mariposa High School, where he was recognized as an All-League performer and the team MVP. Following high school, Mankins played college football for the Fresno State Bulldogs at California State University, Fresno. He redshirted in 2000 and, as a freshman in 2001, started all 14 games at left tackle, notably blocking for quarterback David Carr and allowing only two sacks. This performance earned him a spot on the first-team Freshman All-American team by Sporting News. In 2002, he continued his streak, starting all 14 games and being named to the Outland Trophy watch list. His college career faced a setback in 2003 when he tore his ACL during preseason practices, leading him to miss the season. However, he returned strongly in 2004, starting every game at left tackle, allowing no sacks or pressures, and earning first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection, as well as the team’s MVP award.

Mankins was drafted by the New England Patriots with the 32nd overall pick in the first round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Despite primarily playing tackle in college, he was transitioned to left guard by the Patriots, immediately securing a starting position. He started all 16 games in his rookie season and was named to Pro Football Weekly’s 2005 All-Rookie team. He continued his consistent performance, starting all 16 games in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009. His reliability and skill led to multiple accolades, including being named a starting guard in the 2008 Pro Bowl and a second-team All-Pro selection in 2007. He was also selected to the Patriots’ 50th Anniversary Team in 2009 and earned his second Pro Bowl selection at the end of the 2009 season. His professional tenure with the Patriots spanned 2005 to 2013, during which he was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was named first-team All-Pro once.

In 2014, Mankins was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he played for two seasons, 2014 and 2015. He continued to be a significant presence on the offensive line, anchoring a unit that contributed to the team’s fifth-best offense in his final season. He was voted as a Pro Bowl alternate in 2015, marking his seventh Pro Bowl appearance. Mankins announced his retirement on March 7, 2016, concluding an 11-season NFL career where he was regarded as a premier guard. Post-retirement, Mankins lives in North Attleboro and manages Draper Farms, focusing on raising beef cattle.
