About

Lynda Jean Cordova Carter was born on July 24, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona. Her early years involved a deep engagement with music, performing in bands like Just Us and The Relatives, and singing in local venues from a young age. This period of her life involved touring the Nevada ‘Silver Circuit’ with The Garfin Gathering, honing her performance skills before transitioning to acting. A significant turning point in her early career was winning Miss World USA in 1972, representing Arizona, and subsequently placing in the top 15 at the Miss World 1972 pageant. These experiences laid the groundwork for her entry into the entertainment industry, where she would soon achieve global recognition.

Carter’s acting career commenced with appearances in television shows such as “Nakia” in 1974, followed by roles in “Starsky and Hutch” and various B movies. The pivotal moment arrived in 1975 when she secured the lead role in the live-action television series “Wonder Woman.” Her portrayal of Diana Prince/Wonder Woman, a character rooted in goodness and strength, resonated with audiences globally, cementing her status as a cultural icon. The series, which aired from 1975 to 1979 across ABC and CBS, propelled Carter into the spotlight and continues to be her most recognized role. After the series concluded, Carter continued to expand her artistic pursuits, venturing into music with the album “Portrait” in the late 1970s and headlining several musical television specials.

Throughout the subsequent decades, Carter maintained a consistent presence in film and television, including roles in “Super Troopers” (2001), “Sky High” (2005) as Principal Powers, and a cameo in “Wonder Woman 1984” (2020) as Asteria. She also extended her work into voice acting for video games like “The Elder Scrolls” series and “Fallout 4” (2015). Beyond her screen work, Carter has been a visible advocate for various causes, including women’s empowerment, LGBT rights, and health awareness. Her contributions to the arts and her advocacy efforts have been recognized with numerous honors, including a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2018 and the Sor Juana Legacy Award in 2022, underscoring her enduring legacy as an entertainer and humanitarian.
