Maestro Harrell is an American DJ, singer, rapper, actor and record producer who is best known for his musical work and his acting starring on the HBO original series The Wire as Randy Wagstaff, or as Malik on the ABC Comedy Suburgatory. Harrell began his career in music, being named The Most Talented Child Under Twelve Years Old at the Chicago Music Awards in not only 1999, but also 2000 and 2001; going on to perform at the grand opening ceremony for Disnyeland in Hong Kong and signing a record deal with So So Def/Island Def Jam run by hip-hop producer Jermaine Dupri, who has worked with the likes of Janet Jackson, Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey and Usher.
Harrell is also an actor, starting from the age of seven appearing in television shows such as The Tonight Show with Jay leno and The Maury Povich Most Talented Kids Show, serving as the spokesperson for Western Union’s Study Buddy Reading Program, which enabled Harrell to travel around the United States performing at schools and delivering motivational speeches to encourage students to read. The actor is a member of SAD, AFTRA and EQUITY unions, and had the lead in Sony TriStar’s Guys Like Us. Harrell has also appeared in motion picture, starring in Ali, directed by Michael Mann, where he starred alongside an all-star cast including Will Smith, Jamie Foxx and Jon Voight. Harrell has also been in Barbershop and the film The Promotion.
Harrell is now focusing more on his producing and music career, being signed to W&W’s label Mainstage Music, where he got much attention for track Olympus as well as collaboration with Maurice West named Poseidon. Harrell goes by Maestro in his music, and released the self-produced track Which One Which in 2018, which would later be featured in The First Purge, which would lead up to his self produced debut EP WAV GOD later that year. Harrell’s track with David Gemmill has also featured in the animated superhero musical-comedy Teen Titans Go! ToThe Movies, and this success has seen Harrell produce a follow up EP entitled WAV GOD 2. Now, Harrell is focusing on promoting his new music and has starred in John Henry on Netflix.
