Marcus Luttrell is an American decorated Navy Seal, author, producer and podcast host.He reached worldwide recognition for being a key member of the extraordinary Operation Red Wings, where he was a sole survivor of an ambush in Iraq. He was honoured with the Navy Cross for his actions during the ordeal and his eventual escape.
Luttrell, born in Houston, Texas, began training for the army at a young age. He attended Sam Houston State University, and graduated with a degree in International Business. After enlisting for the Navy in 2015, he was deployed to Iraq in 203, and then Afghanistan in 2005. After Operation Red Wings in 2007, he returned home and began focused on reporting his experiences of war.
He used the dynamic and fascinating experiences of his career in the Navy to produce several books, titled Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10, and the subsequent Service: A Navy Seal at War. These accounts of his experiences were released to global fascination. A film was made documenting Operation Redwing, and he was played by the star Mark Wahlberg. In addition to this, he is the founder and co-host of the podcast Team Never Quit, which aims to interview those who have done similarly audacious deeds or faced tough challenges. It was given the accolade of the Best of iTunes Award in 2015.
