About

Mark Adam Wales was born on November 3, 1979, in Newman, Western Australia. His early life was shaped by experiences in regional Australia and a foundational desire for control and to assist others, influenced by a childhood trauma and the visible heroism of figures like those involved in the Iranian Embassy siege. This resolve led him to a military career, which began with his Oath of Allegiance in 1997 at the age of 17. He attended the Australian Defence Force Academy and then the Royal Military College, Duntroon, commissioning as an officer. His military service spanned 16 years, including ten deployments across various locations such as Timor-Leste, Solomon Islands, Iraq, Afghanistan, Fiji, and Lebanon, where he developed extensive experience in dynamic, high-stress environments. His roles included leading an infantry platoon in Timor-Leste and serving as a Captain in the 11th/28th Battalion. In 2004, Wales successfully completed the rigorous Selection process for the Special Air Service Regiment (SASR), a testament to his endurance and leadership capabilities.

Within the SASR, Wales undertook multiple operational roles, including leading close protection teams for senior military and political figures in war zones and commanding E Troop in Afghanistan. His tenure in Afghanistan between 2007 and 2010 included impactful combat operations, such as a 12-hour firefight with Taliban forces in 2007 and supporting a major attack on Musa Qala. These experiences, while defining his military career, also led to significant personal challenges, including PTSD and depression, shaping his perspective on conflict and leadership. After leaving the military in 2012 as a Major, Wales transitioned to civilian life, pursuing an MBA from the Wharton School of Business. He then worked as a consultant for McKinsey & Company, applying his leadership and strategic skills to business challenges before founding his own company, Kill Kapture.

Beyond his military and business career, Wales gained public recognition through his appearances on television. He competed in “Australian Survivor” in 2017 and later won “Australian Survivor: Blood V Water” in 2022. He also participated in “World’s Toughest Race: Eco-Challenge Fiji.” His experiences extend to the entertainment industry, including a role in the Hollywood film “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga,” released in 2024. As an author, Wales published his memoir, “Survivor: Life in the SAS,” in 2021, detailing his military experiences and personal journey. His first fictional work, “Outrider,” a thriller set in a near-future Australia, was released in 2024. Mark Wales is recognized for his contributions to leadership, resilience, and team development, often sharing insights from his diverse career through speaking engagements.
