Marlon Devonish MBE was one of the best English sprinters of all-time, but he was particularlyspecial in the 4 X 100 metre relay events. He competed in both the 100 and 200 metres throughout his career, but it was his ability to run the bends that made him a unique athlete, and one that without whom Team GB wouldn’t have accomplished nearly as much.
Devonish was a crucial member of the GB team that ran at the 2004 Olympics, and he also won medals at four World Championships in the same events between 1999 and 2009. During his career he won six gold medals, two silvers and five bronzes. The gold medals came in the 2004 Olympics, 2006 European Championships, 2003 World Indoor Championships and 1998, 2002 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
