This collaboration was varied, focusing on integrating Bennett's creative content within GIPHY's platform, especially given GIPHY's role as a major kids' brand. The NFL also had an interest in reaching this demographic, aligning with the partnership's goals.
Martellus Demond Bennett, born on March 10, 1987, in Houston, Texas, established himself as a prominent Football player, primarily as a tight end, for 10 seasons in the National Football League (NFL). His collegiate career at Texas A&M University saw him play both football and basketball, becoming the first athlete since 1969 to letter in both sports at the university. He was recognized as a five-star recruit in high school football and was a semifinalist for the John Mackey Award in his sophomore year at Texas A&M, ultimately setting a school record for most receptions by a tight end with 105 catches. Following his junior year, Bennett declared for the NFL Draft after being projected as a first or second-round pick.
Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round, 61st overall, of the 2008 NFL Draft, Bennett began his professional career. He quickly developed into an excellent blocker and recorded his first career touchdown in his rookie season. He spent four seasons with the Cowboys before moving to the New York Giants in 2012, where he amassed 55 receptions for 626 yards and five touchdowns in a single season. From 2013 to 2015, Bennett played for the Chicago Bears, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2014 after achieving a career-high 90 receptions for 916 yards. His time with the New England Patriots in 2016 culminated in a Super Bowl LI victory, where he played a crucial role despite battling injuries, finishing the season with 55 receptions for 701 yards and seven touchdowns. After a brief stint with the Green Bay Packers and a second period with the Patriots which was cut short by injury, Bennett retired from the NFL in March 2018.
Following his retirement from professional football, Martellus Bennett shifted his focus to his multimedia production company, The Imagination Agency. Through this venture, he has become a children’s author, publishing his first book, “Hey A.J. It’s Saturday,” in 2016. He further expanded his creative endeavors by releasing music albums and developing an animated short film titled “Zoovie.” Bennett’s post-NFL career showcases his commitment to fostering imagination and creativity, particularly for young audiences, and diversifying his professional pursuits beyond sports.
