Matt Dillon is a true Hollywood star known around the world for his roles in such major films as Drugstore Cowboy, Crash, There’s Something about Mary; You, Me & Dupree, and Singles. A versatile actor, he is equally known for his roles in challenging films such as Francis Ford Coppola’s Rumble Fish and the controversial 2018 film The House That Jack Built. He has won many awards and been nominated for Academy Awards, Golden Globes, and Oscars. His audiobook narration of Jack Kerouac’s classic novel On the Road won him a Grammy nomination. Dillon was discovered whilst playing truant from school. Aged just 14, he was cast in 1979’s cult coming-of-age drama Over the Edge. From then on, the film roles kept coming, and he spent the 1980s building his reputation through films like Rumble Fish, Flamingo Club, and The Outsiders, the latter inspiring the wave of mid-1980s classic Brat-Pack movies. He made his Broadway debut in 1985, but his first major recognition came with the 1989 film Drugstore Cowboy, for which he won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Male Lead.
During the 1990s and 2000s, Dillon cemented his reputation as a leading Hollywood actor with roles in the era-defining likes of There’s Something About Mary and In & Out. He also appeared in the critically-acclaimed likes of The Saint of Fort Washington. More recent projects have included the likes of Wayward Pines, a hit TV series that won him a Saturn Award nomination for Best Actor on Television.
