Matt O’Brien

Matt O’Brien is a Canadian stand-up comedian originating from London, Ontario. His career began gaining significant traction when he was named the 2010 winner of SiriusXM Canada’s Canada’s Top Comic competition. This early achievement propelled him into the Canadian comedy scene, where he started performing regularly at notable venues such as Yuk Yuk’s and Comedy Bar. His comedic talent was further recognized with a Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Breakout Artist at the 15th Canadian Comedy Awards in 2014, solidifying his presence within the industry.

Throughout his career, O’Brien has made numerous television appearances, showcasing his versatile comedic style. He has been featured on established Canadian programs including “The Debaters,” “Video on Trial,” and “Cocktales.” His work extends to acting roles in various series, such as “Conan” (2019) where he appeared as ‘Couch Guy’ and ‘Cat High Five Guy’ across two episodes, and “TallBoyz” (2021), where he played ‘Chris’ and ‘Audience 1’. He also had a role in the TV series “Fail Center” (2020) as ‘Ken Harless’ and in “The Beaverton” (2016) as ‘Heritage Minute Director.’ Furthermore, O’Brien contributed as a writer for “Just for Laughs: All-Access” (2014), demonstrating his creative abilities beyond performance. His acting credits also include “Bad Deal” (2018) and “Population Zero” (2016), as well as two episodes of “Odd Squad” (2015) as ‘Man With Fridge Problems.’

More recently, Matt O’Brien has gained broader recognition, notably making an appearance on “America’s Got Talent” (2025), where he competed alongside his wife, fellow comedian Julia Hladkowicz. Their back-to-back auditions garnered attention, showcasing their shared comedic path. This followed their participation in “Roast Battle Canada” (2025), where they roasted each other, further highlighting their dynamic as a comedic duo. O’Brien continues to perform stand-up and develop his craft, with a new comedy album, “KING OF KIRKLAND,” recorded at Dynasty Typewriter in Los Angeles.
