Matt Walsh

Matt Walsh was born in Chicago, Illinois, on October 13, 1964. He pursued higher education at Northern Illinois University, where he earned a degree in Psychology, including a period of study abroad at Salzburg College in Austria. Upon returning to Chicago, Walsh developed an interest in improvisational comedy, undertaking classes and performing regularly at the Annoyance Theater and ImprovOlympic. This early immersion in the comedic arts laid the groundwork for his future career.

In 1991, Matt Walsh co-founded the Upright Citizens Brigade (UCB) sketch comedy troupe alongside Matt Besser, Amy Poehler, and Ian Roberts. UCB quickly became a significant force in the comedy scene, establishing theaters and schools in New York and Los Angeles. Walsh starred in the original “Upright Citizens Brigade” television series on Comedy Central from 1998 to 2000 and was instrumental in its 2015 reboot, “The UCB Show.” His work with UCB demonstrated his skills in both performance and theatrical management, solidifying his reputation within the comedy community.

Walsh’s career expanded into film and television with notable roles in comedies and dramas. He was a correspondent for “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” from 2001 to 2002. His film credits include “Into the Storm” (2014), where he played Pete, “The Hangover” (2009) as Dr. Valsh, and “Ted” (2012) as Thomas. A significant turning point in his acting career was his role as Mike McLintock in the HBO series “Veep” (2012-2019), for which he received two Primetime Emmy Award nominations. Beyond acting, Walsh has also directed and written films such as “High Road” (2012) and “A Better You” (2014), further demonstrating his versatility in the entertainment industry.
