De Filippis is a Police officer from Taranto in Southern Italy who has competed internationally for over two decades, and has won numerous medals at top international competitions including three golds, a silver and three bronze. In 2018 the experienced shooter won his second international gold medal in Changwon, Korea at the ISSF World Cup Stage 2, putting together a perfect streak to beat Jiri Liptak of the Czech Republic. His emphatic win was seen as a major comeback for De Filippis, who won the first gold of his career in Lonato, Italy in 2010.
De Filippis was encouraged to try sport shooting by his parents from a young age, and was given his first gun – a Beretta 24-gauge single-barrel shotgun – when he was four years old. He began clay shooting competitively when he was 16, and whilst rising through the ranks picked up several medals at different levels including his first Italian beginners’ title in 1996 followed by his World Cup gold in 2010 and a European shooting title in 2014.
Since clinching his second international gold medal in 2018 De Filippis has been on a winning streak that has seen him climb to the top of the world rankings, including winning another gold medal at the World Cup Final in Al Ain in 2019.
