Maye Haldeman was born on April 19, 1948, in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. At the age of two, her family relocated to Pretoria, South Africa. Early in life, she engaged in entrepreneurial activities, starting work around age eight by assisting her parents with monthly bulletins and newsletters. By age 12, she worked as a receptionist alongside her twin sister for her father, a chiropractor. In 1969, she was a finalist in the Miss South Africa beauty pageant. In 1970, she married Errol Musk, a South African engineer, with whom she had three children: Elon, Kimbal, and Tosca Musk. She pursued higher education, earning a master’s degree in dietetics from the University of the Orange Free State in South Africa, where her major was taught in Afrikaans. Later, she obtained another master’s degree in nutritional science from the University of Toronto. In 2023, she received an honorary doctorate in dietetics from the University of the Free State.
Her modeling career spans over five decades, with significant milestones including appearances on the covers of various international magazines. In 2017, at 69, she became CoverGirl’s oldest spokesmodel, a role that was noted for its historical significance.
