Meghan Picerno is an American theatre actress and coloratura soprano, recognized for her work in both opera and musical theatre. She pursued her musical education at Illinois Wesleyan University and later earned a Master of Music degree in voice from the Manhattan School of Music. Picerno commenced her career in the opera world, performing internationally at venues such as the National Center for the Performing Arts in China, and participating in prestigious competitions like Plácido Domingo’s Operalia International Vocal Competition in 2015, where she was a quarterfinalist. She also garnered the top prize at the Arkadi International Vocal Competition and achieved success in other vocal competitions.
Her transition into musical theatre began with New York City Opera’s 2017 production of Leonard Bernstein’s ‘Candide,’ directed by Hal Prince, where she played Cunégonde. This collaboration led to her being cast as Christine Daaé in the U.S. Premiere and First National Tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘Love Never Dies.’ Following this, Picerno reprised the role of Christine Daaé in a world tour of ‘The Phantom of the Opera,’ performing in cities including Manila, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, and Tel Aviv. She then made her Broadway debut in ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ at the Majestic Theatre. She continued in the role through the show’s reopening after the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown, concluding her five-year tenure as Christine Daaé on January 23, 2022.
Throughout her career, Picerno has performed in various stage productions, including ‘Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill’ and ‘The Dreyfus Affair’ Off-Broadway. Her concert appearances include venues such as David Geffen Hall, Alice Tully Hall, The Kennedy Center, and the Royal Albert Hall with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Her vocal range and stage presence have been consistently acknowledged by critics, highlighting her ability to deliver impactful performances in both operatic and musical theatre contexts.
