Ice hockey star Mélodie Daoust is a two-time Olympian who won a gold medal in 2016 Winter Olympics in Sochi and a silver medal 4 years later in Pyeongchang. She is a member-player of the Professional Women’s Hockey Players Association (PWHPA), a non-profit organisation which promotes women’s ice hockey and she has featured in many showcases for the organisation, including the Elite Women’s 3-on-3 hockey game at the 2020 NHL All-Star Game Skills Competition. At McGill University she was an impressive force in the team who contributed to their success over 5 seasons.
Born and raised in Valleyfield, Québec, she began playing hockey as a 5 year old playing minor hockey with the boys. A talented player right from the start, she was one of only a small number of female players to play at the Midget Espoir level. When she was 16 years old she transitioned to the girls’ game and played for the Lac St-Louis Selects. Shen then enrolled at CEGEP Édouard-Montpetit, and in 2010 helped the Lynx to victory in a championship before committing to McGill University.
Daoust became a formidable force on the McGill University team as she helped win provincial titles, several awards and become national championship runner-up before going on to play for Montreal Stars and Les Canadiennes de Montreal in the Canadian Women’s Hockey Team. She has also continued to strive for excellence by keeping her place on the Canadian national team, taking part in many international competitions and enjoying medal-winning success in two Olympics.
