With a thriving underwater business and more than 1.1 million followers on TikTok, Mermaid Grace is living her childhood dream as a real-life mermaid. The TikTok influencer rose to prominence when a video of her touching fingers with an enthralled child through aquarium glass racked up more and a million views and a video of her blowing bubbles underwater at a surprised stingray also went viral.
Mermaid Grace – real name Grace Page – is now the only qualified freediver working as a professional mermaid in the UK, and in addition to being in constant demand for corporate events, parties and as an underwater model for TV, film and advertising, also runs her own mermaid school teaching young children how to hold their breath underwater and swim in heavy tails so they can become mermaids and mermen too. Hailing from landlocked Woking, Page won the first Miss Mermaid UK pageant in 2016 and went on to represent the UK at an international competition.
A huge fan of Disney’s classic movie The Little Mermaid since she was a young girl, Page dreamt of becoming a real-life mermaid when she grew up, and with the help of a made-to-measure £2,200 silicone tailed costume she has successfully achieved her childhood ambition. But there’s much more to Page’s success than dressing the part – she’s a talented swimmer who can swim underwater for up to four minutes and worked hard to earn her open-water free-diving qualification. Now riding the crest of the wave in the unique world of real-life mermaids, Page intends to bring her watery adventures and the magic of mermaids to the rest of Europe as she expands her business.
