Michael Matt

Michael Matt was born on May 13, 1993, in Zams, Tyrol, Austria. He began his World Cup career at the age of 20, making his debut in the Levi slalom in November 2013, where he competed alongside his brother, Mario Matt. His early career saw him participate in the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek, US, where he did not finish the second run of the slalom event. Matt achieved his first World Cup podium on November 13, 2016, placing as a runner-up at Levi, Finland. His first World Cup victory followed on March 5, 2017, in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia.

Matt’s career progression includes significant achievements at the Olympic Games. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea, he secured a bronze medal in the men’s slalom after moving from 12th place to third in the second run. He also contributed to the Austrian squad’s silver medal in the team event at the same Olympics. In 2022, at the Beijing Winter Olympics, Matt earned a gold medal as part of the Austrian team in the mixed team event. He has participated in 11 World Cup seasons and consistently ranked high in the slalom discipline, including a 4th place in the Slalom discipline in 2018. Matt has accumulated 1 World Cup win and 8 podium finishes throughout his career.
