Michael Weatherly

Michael Manning Weatherly Jr. was born on July 8, 1968, in New York City and raised in Fairfield, CT. He left college to pursue an acting career, initially landing a minor role as Theo Huxtable’s roommate on “The Cosby Show” and a role in the independent film “Trigger Happy.” His early career also involved music, playing in a band while seeking acting opportunities. Weatherly’s dedication led him to Los Angeles, where he secured a regular role in the FOX series “Significant Others” and appeared in director Whit Stillman’s film “The Last Days of Disco” in 1998. He further expanded his acting background with roles in “Jesse,” “The Specials,” “Venus and Mars,” and “Gun Shy.”

Weatherly gained wider recognition for his role as Logan Cale in the television series “Dark Angel,” which aired from 2000 to 2002. This role earned him multiple award nominations, including two Saturn Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Television Series in 2001 and 2002, and a Teen Choice Award for Choice Actor in 2001. A significant turning point in his career came in 2003 when he was cast as Senior NCIS Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo in the CBS series “NCIS.” He portrayed this character for 13 seasons, becoming a central figure in one of television’s most popular action-dramas. During this period, he also made guest appearances in “NCIS: New Orleans” (2014) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (2015), making him one of the few actors to appear in all four “NCIS” universe shows.

After concluding his long tenure on “NCIS” in 2016, Weatherly took on the lead role of Dr. Jason Bull in the CBS series “Bull,” a show loosely based on the early career of Dr. Phil McGraw, which ran until 2022. Beyond acting, Weatherly has ventured into directing, making his directorial debut with the “NCIS” season-eight episode “One Last Score” in 2011, and directing other episodes of “NCIS” and “Bull.” He also directed and produced the 2017 documentary “Jamaica Man,” which premiered at the Telluride Film Festival and received awards at the Doc LA – Los Angeles Documentary Film Festival and the NYC Independent Film Festival. In 2024, it was announced that Weatherly would reprise his role as Tony DiNozzo in a new Paramount+ series, “NCIS: Tony & Ziva,” showcasing his continued presence in the franchise.
