Kate del Castillo is a Mexican actress known for playing leading roles in many popular telenovelas and starring in several Hollywood films. She has appeared extensively in both Spanish-language and English-language productions, and is today best known for her work on series including Ingobernable and La Reina del Sur.
Del Castillo first rose to fame in 1991, playing a lead role in the hit Mexican telenovela Muchachitas, and soon became one of Latin America’s most in-demand young actresses. The following year, she played the protagonist in Mágica Juventud opposite Héctor Soberón, and followed this with parts in series including Azul, Imperio de Cristal, and Alguna Vez Tendremos Alas. In 2006, del Castillo starred in the feature film Bordertown in an all-star cast including Jennifer Lopez, Martin Sheen and Antonio Banderas. The project was her first Hollywood film, and she has since appeared in movies including Down for Life, K-11, The 33 and No Good Deed. On stage, she has performed on an international tour of the play Cartas de Amor alongside Saul Lisazo, and led the multilingual The Way She Spoke in New York.
Working increasingly in the US, del Castillo has played recurring roles in English-language series including Weeds, American Family, and Jane the Virgin, and has had guest parts in Grimm, The Cleaner and Dallas. She has most recently starred in Netflix’s Spanish-language political drama Ingobernable, in which she stars as the First Lady of Mexico, and which has become a worldwide hit. Del Castillo has earned several awards, including Best Young Actress at the Premios TVyNovelas, and Best Actress at the Premios People en Español. She has served as an Ambassador for the Mexican Commission on Human Rights, and helped launch the UN’s anti-trafficking initiative the Blue Heart Campaign.
