Micheal Ward was born on November 18, 1997, in Spanish Town, Jamaica. At the age of four, he moved to Hackney, East London, with his mother, Keisha, and his three sisters, following the death of his father in a car crash when Micheal was two. The family later relocated to Romford. Ward attended Chadwell Heath Academy and subsequently studied performing arts at Epping Forest College after leaving sixth form. During his teenage years, he worked delivering food for his aunt’s restaurant and later at a bookmakers shop. His career began while still in college when he signed with a talent agency, leading to roles in music videos for artists such as Lily Allen and Tom Walker. At seventeen, Ward won the Face of JD Sports modeling competition, which led to further modeling opportunities, including being chosen by Virgil Abloh to model for Louis Vuitton’s AW20 menswear campaign in August 2020. He made his film debut in ‘Brotherhood’ in 2016 and appeared in the first series of the teen thriller ‘The A List’ on BBC iPlayer in 2018, reprising his role for its second series on Netflix.
Ward’s breakthrough occurred in 2019 with his role as Jamie in Netflix’s revival of ‘Top Boy.’ He also starred in the critically acclaimed film ‘Blue Story’ that same year, for which he received the BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2020. His career progressed with a role in Steve McQueen’s ‘Small Axe: Lovers Rock’ (2020), earning him a BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. In 2022, Ward starred alongside Olivia Colman and Colin Firth in Sam Mendes’ ‘Empire of Light,’ which led to another BAFTA nomination for Best Actor in a Supporting Role. Following this, he was cast in Jeymes Samuel’s ‘The Book of Clarence’ (2022).
Continuing his trajectory, Ward appeared with Bill Nighy in the 2024 film ‘The Beautiful Game.’ In 2025, he acted in Ari Aster’s satirical western, ‘Eddington.’ Ward was recognized in Forbes’ ’30 Under 30′ list in 2020 and became a British citizen in 2015. On July 25, 2025, the Metropolitan Police announced that Ward was charged with two counts of rape and three counts of sexual assault, with the offenses allegedly occurring in January 2023 against one woman. Ward has denied these charges and is cooperating with the ongoing legal proceedings.
